There is herein described a technique for automated generation of coded data which provides multiple font style generation by a matrix printer. The technique includes the following steps: - A complete font style is scanned and the information is stored for later use. - The stored information is processed to construct a file with separate information for each character symbol. - Character data is retrieved and modified interactively to correct character image by adding or deleting data points. - The new image data is stored. The last two steps are repeated until all characters have been smoothed. The new file containing smoothed character symbol data is input to a program for generating a file corresponding to matrix printer dot locations, which file can be directly used by the printer controller.
