Magnetic Storage Drum
A magnetic drum of increased storage capacity consists of a plurality of V- shaped annular grooves around the periphery of the drum, which cooperate with complementary heads corresponding to each groove. Recording is effected on the magnetizable sides of the grooves.
One head configuration is illustrated in the lower drawings. The left-hand one is an enlarged fragmentary sideview of the right hand drawing. The head 10 consists of a core 11 which is provided with a coil 12 and V-shaped pole pieces 13 shaped complementary to the grooves 14 on drum 15. The two pole pieces 13 terminate to provide an air gap 17.
In this configuration, the read and write signals occur on both faces of the pole pieces 13 and the grooves 14.
The heads can be constructed to operate on one side of a groove only.
