Specifying a Distribution of a Reply
This article
describes a mechanism for IBM's Document
Interchange Architecture (DIA) mail distributions whereby an
enterprise can convey to a recipient information regarding related
distributions. No mechanism currently
exists in DIA whereby an
originator of a current distribution can specify a previous
distribution to which the current distribution is a reply.
Currently,
every execution of a REQUEST-DISTRIBUTION command
creates a Unique Delivery Identifier (UDI) which identifies the
distribution uniquely within the network. By providing an operand
which identifies the UDI of a previous distribution on the
REQUEST-DISTRIBUTION command, an enterprise upon receiving the
command could convey the information within the operand about a
previous distribution to which the current distribution is a reply.
The creation
of a self-defining operand, which contains a UDI
which represents a previous distribution, permits enterprises to
display and retrieve previous distributions which the current
distribution is a reply.
