Abstract

Currently there exists no method to check the spelling of words using a sophisticated spelling and grammar checker on a mobile device. For e-mails being sent from high profile mobile device users, these spelling errors are something that is needed to be avoided. One proposed solution is to have an e-mail sent to the mobile device server with a flag set to spell check. Grammatical problems regarding sentence structure, spelling and other possible grammar errors could be detected with the use of a sophisticated system that would not normally be able to reside on a mobile device. The medium of transport would be wirelessly over-the-air (OTA). Most mobile device function using a client server model, where a thinner client application resides on the device and a fatter mobile server handles the majority of the processing. A 3rd party spell checker application may be implemented at the mobile device server level to notify potential spelling errors, before the message is sent out. The process will consist of setting a spell-check flag that would notify the mobile device server to scan the message and then through an interactive process between this server and the client device operating system (OS), the e-mail will be notified of all possible errors in the document. At this point, the user can opt to fix or ignore these errors. This proposed solution will give high profile executives the ability to write e-mails and send them on their mobile device without waiting to send when they return back to their office.
