The migration from CMVC/VSS/PVCS/CVS etc products into Rational ClearCase is a rigorous process. There is no as such well defined migration tool or migration strategy which is known to software industry to migrate data within Configuration Management products. However there may be some user defined work arounds by which user can migrate data from one CM product to Rational CC/CQ. The GUI tool will make the migration of data from various configuration management products into Rational ClearCase/ClearQuest easy and will help user to perform the migration into simpler steps.

The migration from CMVC/VSS/PVCS/CVS etc configuration products into Rational ClearCase/ClearQuest is a rigorous process that requires the time of the following people:
Rational Administrator, Project Technical Lead, Other CM Administrator. It takes a lot of time to migrate a project from one product to another depending upon the size of the data. In order to ease this problem and to simplify the steps it is recommended to have a GUI based migration tool available to all users publicly just like other available Rational tools.

The GUI tool will make the migration of data from various configuration management products into Rational ClearCase/ClearQuest easy and will help user to perform the migration into simpler steps with the just click of buttons.

There is no as such well defined migration tool or migration strategy which is known to software industry to migrate data within CM products. However there may be some user defined work arounds by which user can migrate data from one CM product to Rational CC/CQ, for eg by using CLEARFSIMPORT command of Rational ClearCase can help migrating data from VSS to ClearCase. But if a user wants to migrate data from other tool there are no specific step or tool available.
