Disclosed is a system for translating the viewing of video content into online video rental queueing or queue recommendations or purchase recommendations of appropriate related content. The system consists of a plugin that is installed into an internet browser with the capability to search a website such as IMDB (The Internet Movie Database) when users are viewing viral videos about a specific movie. The plugin is then able to add recommendations to a rental queue based on the videos that a user is watching.
Online Rental Recommendation Service using Viral Video Content
The disclosed system provides a direct path for providing recommendations while viewing viral videos via advertisements. Currently, there are viral videos that link to places to buy specific titles but there is not a way to have recommendations for a rental service while watching a viral video without a user's manual intervention of searching different movie databases.
The preferred embodiment would be a browser plugin that plugs into an existing rental service queue, DVD (Digital Versatile Disk) mailer service, or recommendations list. The user would install this plugin into their browser (Firefox, Internet Explorer, Safari) and when they are viewing viral video content on a website, the plugin would have the ability to know what that video is about and process the movie title or description accordingly. The plugin would take the general topic or movie title from the currently displayed viral video and search IMDB for matches. The next time the user logs into their video rental service website, the recommendations would come back based on what viral videos the user was watching at the time the plugin was processing the content.
