Proposed is a mechanism by which peer-generated information may be created, collected, and associated with a given television program. Several implementations are included.
Collaborative visual description
The primary embodiment is enabled by the use of two-way digital transmission between service provider (such as cable company). Many cable and satellite services already include this capability and the trend is towards increasing integration between cable and information (internet) services, with on-demand or asynchronous distribution of program content becoming more common. Additionally, voice-over-IP services, allowing transfer of digital audio on the same networks, are increasingly popular and being integrated with digital cable, satellite, and high-speed internet services. In the primary embodiment (shown in the figure), any user watching a given television program may choose to create visual description content for that program in real time. VOIP protocols or other digital transmission methods may be used to transmit this visual description information to the content provider where it is time-stamped and associated with the content. Upon later airings or digital distribution of the content, the captured visual description information may be sent with the programming.
