Disclosed is a DIMM connector incorporating one or more thermal sensors which utilize an integrated spring mechanism to provide contact with the desired component(s) on the DIMM. Further disclosed are various mechanisms to position these sensor(s) upon installation of a DIMM (for instance, to contact the center of a module).

DIMM connector with integrated positionable thermal sensor

Multiple known technologies may be used to implement the sensor, including thermistor, thermocouple, and platinum resistance thermometer (PRT).

The output of the sense pin(s) on the connector may be in the form of an analog signal directly from the sensor, or may be in the form of a digitized representation of that signal.

In the primary embodiment (figures 1a and 1b), the positions of the targeted devices on the DIMM (for example, an Advanced Memory Buffer at the center of a Fully Buffered DIMM) are known and the thermal sensor(s) are prepositioned to contact the targeted devices when a DIMM is installed. The wires associated with the thermal sensor(s) are routed through and incorporated within the DIMM body, and are routed to the supporting circuit board as connector pins.
