Method and System for Obtaining Usage Details of a Licensed Product

A method and system is provided for tracking usage details of licensed applications in an organization. The method enables an organization to track usage of the licensed application when the organization is billed by the number of licenses which are required for the application, in a given period of time.

The licenses are managed by FLEXlm*, and enables an organization to track usage of the licensed product/application.

The tracking application involves querying the licensed product in real-time using the LMUTIL utility supplied as part of FLEXlm. The method enables an organization to query the license management tool for obtaining license usage details of the licensed product across various locations within the organization. After obtaining the userid from LMUTIL the application queries the Mechanical Computer Aided Engineering (MCAE) database retrieving detail user information such as: Name, Location, Brand, Dept, Div, VP(Vice President), Manager and Phone

In an exemplary scenario, various parameters, such as Application Name, License Server Name, License Port Number, Path to License Keys and debug/nodebug are included in the parameter list passed to the tracking application.
