Method and System for a Wireless Storage Area Network

A method and system for creating a wireless storage area network is disclosed. A combination of Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) and Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) is used to create the wireless storage area network.

Generally, storage area networks are implemented using fiber optics and optical switches. These storage networks are expensive to implement. Further, a high level of technical expertise is required in these storage networks and adding or removing storage involves lengthy and complex processes. Backup and recovery processes are also expensive and time intensive.

The method and system disclosed herein uses a combination of Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) method and Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) method to create a wireless storage area network.

In a mobile telephone network, using thr CDMA method, a unique ID is assigned to each mobile device in the mobile telephone network. Similarly, to create a wireless storage area network, a unique ID is assigned to each hard-drive spindle of the storage units. A Logical Unit Number (LUN) or a Redundant Array of Independent Disks (RAID) is created by establishing a conference call between the hard-drive spindles using a combination of OFDMA and CDMA methods. The conference call is maintained permanently using circuit switches in the storage units.

A client initiates communication with the wireless storage area network by transmitting a unique World Wide Name (WWN). The WWN may correspond to a Host Bus Adapter (HBA) or a Network Interface Card associated with the client. Based on the WWN, a set of privileges corresponding to the client are verified and a conference call is established between the cl...
