3. Short Summary
Large touch surfaces provide a way for multiple people to share the same computing experience. Described herein is a method for a single user to gain access to every part of the surface and to interact with items which may be out of reach.
4. Some Problems Solved
Examples of some of the problems addressed by the invention include:
Large touch surfaces allow for multiple people to interact within the same computing experience at the same time. However, given the size of a large touch surface, sometimes a user is not able to access an item that is out of reach. Proposed is a method for the user to execute a gesture which enables a "virtual touchpad" on the surface. This will enable the user to use a cursor, in a very similar way as a standard cursor is used, to access those items that are out of reach.
5. General Description
When interacting with large touch surfaces, multiple users are able to share the experience, but the size of the touch surface will sometime prohibit a single user from accessing every part of the touch surface. When an item is out of reach, user may have a less then enjoyable experience and will have to resort to reaching across the table to reach the item and possible block another's input or they will have to move to gain access to those items. Here the user can exploit the use of indirect touch input by creating a "virtual touchpad" on the surface when needed and control a cursor to select or manipulate objects beyond their reach.
