Method and System for Testing Websites in an Integrated Development Environment

Abstract

A method and system for testing websites efficiently in an Integrated Development Environment (IDE) is disclosed.  The testing of websites is performed by identifying descriptions of targets during recording by an IDE.

Description

Disclosed is a method and system for testing websites in an Integrated Development Environment (IDE).

Further, the disclosed method and system involves identifying descriptions of targets during recording by an IDE.  The targets described by an IDE are objects of interaction between a user and a browser.

In this method, initially a user such as, a quality engineer describes the targets at step 1 in the figure.  The quality engineer then starts the IDE to record interaction between the quality engineer and the browser at step 2.  Subsequently, the quality engineer starts interacting with the browser at step 3.  Then, the IDE observes the interactions of the quality engineer with the browser and identifies targets involved at step 4.1.  Further, for each interaction at step 4.2 the IDE checks for a target description for the corresponding target.  Once the interactions of the quality engineer with the browser is over, the IDE stops recording as shown at step 5.  A repository of target descriptions is introduced in order to assist quality engineers in customizing target descriptions.  Finally, the IDE stores the recording as test at step 6.
