Abstract

A method and system for displaying advertisements corresponding to an emotion is disclosed.  The emotion is inferred from one or more emoticons used during a conversation.

Description

Disclosed is a method and system for displaying advertisements corresponding to an emotion.  The emotion is inferred from one or more emoticons used during a conversation between two or more users.  Emoticons are used to represent emotions using characters in a conversation.  Examples of conversation include, email, IM messages, SMS messages, and social networking updates etc.  In accordance with the method disclosed herein, conversations are scanned in real time to capture emoticons appearing during the conversation.  Text portion of the conversation is ignored to ensure privacy of the users participating in the conversation.  The emoticons which appear in chat conversation are classified into emotional categories such as, anger, sadness, happiness, etc.  Once the emoticons are classified they are ranked based on relevant strength of the classification associated with the emoticons.

An emotion score is computed based on the classifications and ranking of the emoticons.  The emotion score provides an emotional context of the conversation.  The emotion score is different for a sender of an emoticon and one or more recipients of an emoticon during a conversation.  The emotion score is used to determine...
