Method and System for Optimized On -Screen Keyboard

Disclosed is a method and system for an intelligent optimized on-screen keyboard. The layout of the on-screen keyboard is intelligently implemented based on an application it is being used along with as well as a context in which the application is being used.

The method and system disclosed herein intelligently optimizes the layout of an on-screen keyboard according to the application being used as well as the context in which the application is being used. The optimizations may further include inclusion of new/additional hotkeys/shortcuts based on the context in which the application is being used.

A user's social profile within the application context is used to augment the keyboard hotkeys/shortcuts based on their social typing/chat style. Each application maintains context and keyboard layout options, including hotkeys/shortcuts that need to be placed in different sections of the keyboard. Similar to a web page layout, the keyboard layout can be manipulated by the user.

In accordance with the method and system disclosed herein, a request is send the OS for changing on-screen keyboard setup and layout based on an application being used by a user. The method provides the OS information regarding the context specific shortcuts and keyboard layout as that may be associated with specific applications with which the on-screen keyboard needs to be used.
